Documentary Wedding Photography in London

London, is the greatest city on Earth, and it’s also one of the greatest places to be a wedding photographer.

I’m a London wedding photographer specialising in documentary wedding photography. Natural, unposed images that focus on real moments as they happen. London weddings move fast, and my approach is designed to capture the atmosphere, emotion and in-between moments without interrupting the flow of the day.

I photograph weddings across London, from town halls and intimate city ceremonies to churches and larger venue celebrations. Whether you’re getting married at Chelsea or Hackney Town Hall, in a historic London church, or at one of the city’s many unique venues, I work quietly and unobtrusively to tell the story of your wedding as it genuinely unfolds.

My style suits couples who want their wedding photography to feel relaxed, honest and timeless. There’s no awkward posing or forced moments, just thoughtful documentary coverage so you can enjoy your day while still having beautiful images of the two of you together.

London Town Hall Wedding Photography

Many of my London wedding photography clients choose to have their civil ceremony in one of the many town halls that either house, or used to house, the register offices of London’s various boroughs. They contain a variety of ceremony rooms from grand halls and chambers, to rooms no bigger than your kitchen. Most of them were built a century or more ago and have a grand façade and an equally impressive staircase for some confetti throwing.

From a wedding photographer’s perspective, the registrars in London are always very welcoming. Compared to elsewhere in the country there are fewer restrictions on me whilst shooting, and the signing of the register isn’t the sacred ‘thing that shall not be photographed’ meaning that you get full coverage of the whole of your ceremony.

Islington Town Hall

Islington Town Hall is my most photographed wedding venue! Options include the impressive council chamber and a number of smaller rooms, and it is surrounded by great reception venues in Islington and the City.

Old Marylebone Town Hall

The former Westminster register office is perhaps the grandest of all the London town halls. Recently renovated, it has an array of rooms and an enviable location in the heart of the action.

Chelsea Old Town Hall

Kensington & Chelsea’s register office is a favourite for west London weddings. It features another great set of steps that have been graced by some famous faces. Inside there is a mix of large and small rooms.

Hackney Town Hall

With a large pedestrianised area at the front, and a huge staircase, this is one of the best buildings in London to make a dramatic exit from. Great reception venues in the recently converted atria.

Southwark Register Office

Tucked away on Peckham Road, the unassuming but beautiful frontage of Southwark Council offices contains two rooms for ceremonies, including the Garden Room that opens into quiet and secluded gardens.

Lambeth Town Hall

This recently renovated building in the heart of Brixton contains a range of fantastic rooms for weddings, with the Circular Hall a particular highlight. The perfect setting for a classy and intimate ceremony.

Stoke Newington Town Hall

For maximum art-deco glamour, you can do worse than this former government building in north London. It offers a choice of a wood-panelled council chamber or a huge Assembly Hall.

Micro Weddings & Small London Celebrations

London is the perfect place for a micro-wedding or small gathering. As well as the great range of town halls and register offices for your ceremony, there are a ton of other small venues ideal for smaller ceremony or a low-key reception. From pubs with rooms to hire, to restaurants that take large bookings, to unique venues like city farms and members clubs.

As a London wedding photographer, I offer shorter coverage for smaller weddings, with my hourly rates starting at £650 for two hours. You get the same approach, and the same great record of your big day, just less of my company! To find out more, hit the button below.

London Hotel Weddings

Hotels make great wedding venues anywhere, but London’s got some of the most historic and stylish spots for a totally memorable day.

Take The Ned, a swanky, former bank with fab event spaces and a rooftop terrace. Perfect for a big bash. For something quirkier, Zetter Townhouse is seductive with its eclectic, vintage interiors.

If you fancy a mix of old and new, Town Hall Hotel blends Edwardian elegance with a modern twist. Looking for full-on luxury? The Lanesborough has opulent interiors, Michelin-starred dining, and five star service.

For a cool city wedding with a bit of heritage, Andaz London Liverpool Street combines Victorian charm with contemporary design. Ideal for a chic, stylish do.

Church & Religious Weddings in London

If you are after a religious ceremony, and fancy a proper romantic location for your big day, London’s overrun with amazing churches, each with its own character.

For full-on grandeur, St Paul’s Cathedral is top of the pile. Iconic, massive, and totally breathtaking inside. For something a bit more ornate, St Sophia’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral is all gold, mosaics, and stunning beauty. Hidden in the City, St Bartholomew the Great is a medieval icon with loads of history, while St Etheldreda’s in Holborn has some of the most gorgeous stained glass in town.

Fancy something quirky? St Bride’s, known as the ‘journalists’ church,’ has a tiered spire that supposedly inspired the classic wedding cake shape. For something really different, St Olav’s Norwegian Church in Rotherhithe offers Scandi-style with a warm, intimate vibe.

Iconic London Wedding Venues I’ve Photographed

If you’re after a wedding venue that’s a bit different, London’s got some seriously unique spots to tie the knot.

For a dreamy, nature-filled reception, Petersham Nurseries in Richmond is pure magic. Think twinkling fairy lights, blooming flowers, and a laid-back rustic vibe. If you love a bit of drama (literally), the National Theatre lets you say your vows in one of its iconic spaces, with incredible views over the Thames.

Want something fun and down-to-earth? Hackney City Farm is a quirky choice, where you can celebrate surrounded by barnyard animals and a proper countryside feel, without leaving London. For artsy types, Orleans House Gallery in Twickenham offers a stunning hall in the shape of an octagon.

If sky-high glamour is more your thing, The Roof Gardens bring serious wow-factor, with lush greenery, flamingos, and epic city views. And for the ultimate London skyline wedding, Searcys at the Gherkin offers a stylish, glass-domed space with panoramic views across the capital.

Whatever your vibe, London’s got a one-of-a-kind wedding venue to match!

Wedding Transport in London

Getting around on your wedding day in London can be as fun and unique as the venue itself! You can even treat those non-Londoners in your guest list to a taste of big city tourism.

For classic London vibes, you can’t go wrong with a black cab. Timeless, hassle-free, and perfect for a gaggle of bridesmaids, or a bride and father. And photographer! If you’re moving a big crowd, a vintage Routemaster bus is a brilliant choice. It’s a proper London icon, plus it keeps everyone together and adds a bit of retro appeal to the day.

For something extra special, why not take to the Thames? Hiring a boat is a stunning way to travel, offering amazing views and a proper memorable experience. It’s also a stylish way to make an entrance (or a grand exit!).

And of course, there’s always public transport. The Tube, Overground, and even bikes can be a fun and budget-friendly way to get around. Plus, a few wedding snaps on the Underground make for a quirky, very London keepsake!
