London Wedding Photographer
Documentary wedding photographer in London
London. The greatest city on Earth. It’s also one of the greatest places to be a wedding photographer. About a third of my weddings every year are in London, and there is an amazing choice of venues to choose from north and south of the river. There are some very grand and historic venues, and there are some slick, modern venues. There are venues that reflect London’s history as a great port and industrial centre and some quirky places that you would never think of as wedding venues. I’ve visited many of the ancient and fantastic churches in the City and further afield, and I’m also familiar with many of the register offices and town halls in the various London boroughs and work with the same registrars year after year at venues across the city.
Scroll a bit further for lots more detail about the types of venue I get to shoot as a London wedding photographer, and to see plenty of wedding stories of full day London weddings. If you’re getting married in London I’d love to chat in more detail. Please click here to get in touch!
London Town Hall Weddings
Many of my London wedding photography clients choose to have their civil ceremony in one of the many town halls that either house, or used to house, the register offices of London’s various boroughs. They contain a variety of ceremony rooms from grand halls and chambers, to rooms no bigger than your kitchen. Most of them were built a century or more ago and have a grand façade and an equally impressive staircase for your guests to gather for confetti throwing.
From a photography perspective, the registrars in London are always very welcoming. Compared to elsewhere in the country there are fewer restrictions on me whilst shooting, and the signing of the register isn’t the sacred ‘thing that shall not be photographed’ meaning that you get full coverage of the whole of your ceremony.
Here are a selection of my favourite London register offices and town halls:
Islington Old Town Hall
This is my most photographed wedding venue, and one of my favourites. Ceremony options include the impressive council chamber and a number of smaller rooms. It has two impressive staircases and is surrounded by great reception venues in Islington and the City.
Old Marylebone Town Hall
Chelsea Old Town Hall
Hackney Town Hall
Southwark Register Office
Lambeth Town Hall
Stoke Newington Town Hall
Quirky London Venues
Amongst the wide variety venues that I have worked at as a London wedding photographer, there are some great non-traditional options for those wanting a unique feel to their day.
There are former industrial spaces that function as blank canvases such as Village Underground, The Werkz, and The Chainstore at Trinity Buoy Wharf. There are also some slick, modern venues that are a little different to your average choice, such as the Emirates Stadium and The Gherkin. Other even more leftfield options include Petersham Nurseries in Richmond, and Hackney City Farm, both rural oases in the urban sprawl.
