Sarah and Nathan chose a fairly recent addition to the Cripps & Co portfolio of wedding venues, Grangefields, for their early-summer wedding. And what a venue! This gorgeous barn conversion comprises an old-school, oak-framed room for ceremonies, and a hip, metal and glass building for dining. The whole thing is surrounded by acres of open land on the Trusley estate in Derbyshire, so no neighbours to disturb!
The bride and her entourage got ready in a nearby holiday cottage. They paused the preparations briefly to mingle with local sheep. The bridal party were self-sufficient in matters of hair and make-up, with some proper experts at beautification in the group. And mum and dad were on hand to make sure the dress was wrinkle-free. After some fizz and final preps, it was time to get the bride into said dress. After that, she jumped into a vintage Rolls-Royce for the trip to Grangefields.

The Oak Room at Grangefields was filled with more candles than is surely wise for an ancient wooden framed building, but it looked fantastic. A nervous Nathan was being distracted with the arrival of the guests, and impromptu FaceTime calls with guests that were unable to attend. The arrival of Sarah and her party got the short (but sweet) legal ceremony underway. However, with some kissing, signing and celebratory air-punching it was soon over. Everyone headed out into the courtyard which was bathed in sunshine. Confetti was thrown, games were played, and we were serenaded by Brad Matthews.

After the grand entrance of the bride and groom, the wedding breakfast was served in the modern part of the Grangefields complex. With amazing light from the glass wall running along one side, this is one seriously photogenic venue. Another glass wall separates the diners from the kitchen which contains a cool-looking huge BBQ and a French rotisserie. The speeches prompted some great reactions, particularly the best man’s speech. Bit near the knuckle on a few subjects that one!
Speeches and dinner were followed by some drinking games and some doughnuts. Then the couple cut their wedding cake and danced their first dance. As night fell there was an opportunity for some sparkler waving, before the dance floor officially opened!
