Belvoir Castle makes for a very grand wedding venue, and was chosen by Claire and Bobbie to host the British part of their wedding celebrations. They had their actual wedding ceremony in the Ladies’ Pavilion in Central Park in New York. Their day began getting ready together in one of the most amazing bedrooms I’ve worked in. It is filled with all manner of artefacts and antique furniture. Best women and parents were on hand to help with dresses and flowers.
Downstairs in the Guardroom the guests gathered, surrounded by armour, weapons and other paraphernalia. The couple made a grand entrance together accompanied on the flute by a friend and fellow musician of Claire’s. A ‘ceremony’ was also conducted by a friend of the couple. Then everyone was treated to a slideshow of photographs from their New York ceremony. Definitely a first for me! After the semi-formal bit everyone was encouraged to head outside for ice-creams and drinks. Luckily there was just enough of a window in the weather for everyone to fill their faces before the rain.
Once back inside the castle the guests were treated to a tour of the castle, including the amazing state rooms. Then it was time to head through the rain across the estate to a huge marquee by a lake for part two. This consisted of a pre-dinner ceilidh, complete with violent spinning and the odd tumble! Dancing was followed by a hog roast, lots of speeches and a quick game of Mrs & Mrs. Then the proper dance floor opened for business and the party began in earnest.
