This was my first wedding at 1 Lombard Street (lovely venue, lovely food). I’ve done lots of weddings at Islington Town Hall. I’ve also done weddings at The Drapers Arms. Weddings with gospel choirs, and Choccywoccydoodah cakes (the wedding before last!). And Routemaster buses, and bagpipes. And grooms in kilts, and grooms with a best woman. However, John & Gez’s wedding was the first time I’ve seen all of these things together at the same wedding!
It’s also the first time I’ve taken family group shots in the middle of a London street, albeit a very quiet residential street.
The couple both got ready at the Threadneedle Hotel in the City. John and his best woman wrangled his traditional Scottish outfit into submission, and Gez and his best man did the suit and tie thing. John and Gez and their respective best people then travelled up to Islington for their ceremony in the council chamber at the town hall. This was accompanied by the London Youth Gospel Choir in fine voice.

After the ceremony everybody, including the gospel choir, headed out on to the town hall steps for hugs and congratulations. Then after a quick pint across the road on their own, the couple joined their guests at The Drapers Arms for Pimms and nibbles. After that they jumped on to a pair of buses for a quick tour of London. The tour ended in the City again at 1 Lombard Street where the florist had left a serious mark, Choccywoccydoodah had left a serious cake and the kitchen served up some serious food.
