I’ve photographed wedding ceremonies at Hackney Town Hall before, but this was my first time shooting a wedding reception in their recently completed North Atria. However, first stop was The Mondrian Shoreditch for the bridal preparations.
There were two obvious recurring themes on arrival. An awful lot of sunflower wedding bouquets, and some very glittery, custom wedding Converse shoes. A family member was pulling triple duty as guest, make-up artist and later wedding singer. With everybody preened and dressed it was time to head over to the town hall for the wedding ceremony. As with most London register office weddings, the guests gathered outside whilst the previous wedding was completed. That previous wedding was being photographed by my friend, and former client, Julie. Small world the wedding industry!
The guests gathered in the Committee Rooms, and Graham was looking more than a little nervous. The ceremony passed without a hitch, and afterwards everyone gathered out on the town hall steps for tons of confetti. There were a few family group shots and five mins of natural shots of the newly married couple.
Wedding Photography at Hackney Town Hall
Back inside the town hall, the guests gathered in the fantastic, glass-roofed North Atria for drinks and music by the aforementioned family member. The wedding breakfast was enjoyed at tables filled with more bouquets of sunflowers, and then there was time for speeches. As darkness fell the venue staff cleared space for a dancefloor, and the couple performed their first dance. After that the guests were unleashed! There was even a communal rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” initiated by Liverpool fan Graham.
