This was my first wedding at the amazingly grand Carlton Towers in Yorkshire. A glorious sunny day in the north of England, and Jodie and her bridesmaids and her dog were getting ready in the Baroness Tower bridal suite. Yes, you read correctly. The couple’s miniature dachshund was as much a family member as anybody, so had to be there. He had a bow tie and everything! The groom got ready in the Lord Mark room (good name!) in the appropriately named Bachelor Wing.

Once ready, Alex headed down to the state rooms to check everything and do the usual meet and greet. The bride soon joined him and we had an emotional civil ceremony. There were tears, readings, live saxophone music and Edward Monkton put in an appearance. Then after signing the register the couple led the guests outside and down the incredible sweeping staircase at Carlton Towers. There were drinks and canapés, and more saxophone music. There were also lawn games and a rather early bouquet toss.

After the reception, the couple had a receiving line to welcome their guests back into the state rooms. The wedding breakfast was enjoyed, and then the couple cut the cake. There were speeches from the usual, and not so usual, candidates. Then after a brief break outside in the twilight, the first dance and a few moves from the guests finished the day off.
