The Peak District is a fantastic part of the country, and the perfect location for a sunny outdoor wedding. Set in a picturesque location in the heart of the Derbyshire Dales, Cressbrook Hall is a lovely old house and a perfect wedding venue. It also produced my first (and last) dry outdoor ceremony of the summer. Laura had her hair done at a salon in nearby Bakewell. The bridal party headed up to a pretty cottage in the venue’s grounds to complete their prep. The groom and his gang got ready in another of the on-site cottages, and then headed down to the hall itself.

With the guests gathering in the gardens at the front of the hall, the bride jumped into her dad’s convertible. A short drive later and everyone was in place for the civil ceremony. There a few more impressive spots for an outdoor wedding, and the weather was perfectly behaved. We even had a few gatecrashers in the form of hikers on the other side of the Wye river valley.

As the sun continued to blaze, the wedding guests enjoyed a drinks reception in the well-maintained gardens. There were lovely canapés and a string quartet, and the fizz was flowing freely. The gathered family and friends threw wedding confetti, and admired the amazing Peak District views. Next stop was the orangery for the wedding breakfast and the rest of the party.

During the meal we were treated to speeches by the father of the bride, the groom and the best man. The final part of the day involved the happy couple cutting their wedding cake, and getting the evening party started with their first dance.
