Shoko and Michael’s wedding at the beautiful Hampden House was a real Anglo-Japanese event. There were elements of both cultures present in their day. Shoko got ready with her family and bridesmaids at The Crown hotel in the centre of Amersham. She then jumped in a vintage Bentley for the rainy trip to the venue.
The civil ceremony was held in the Great Hall where the groom and guests were waiting patiently. Afterwards, the guests were able to get some fresh air in the gardens before the rain forced them all back inside. There were canapés and music from a string quartet. Soon it was time for the wedding breakfast which was held in the Dining Room, followed by the speeches. There were a few language barriers, but these were partially broken down by the groom managing to repeat the majority of his speech in his new wife’s mother tongue.
With the day drawing to a close, everybody moved into the Georgian Wing for the first dance. A band was on hand to keep the guests dancing into the wee hours.
