The rainy summer started for me here at Hannah and Mark’s wedding at Syon Park. Syon House and Park are the London home of the Duke of Northumberland. Hannah got ready at home with friends and family before heading to church for the wedding ceremony. Their ceremony was held at St. Leonard’s church in Streatham, and conducted by Hannah’s father. He was one of a growing number of ‘parents conducting ceremonies’ on this blog. From the end of the ceremony, until the end of the day, it rained constantly. But, the show went on with only minimal disruption.
After the ceremony the newlyweds jumped in a black cab for the journey to Syon Park. The guests were treated to a ride on an old London Routemaster double decker bus.

Once at Syon House there was a short drinks reception in the Great Hall. Then, this was followed by an umbrella-assisted walk over to the Great Conservatory for the wedding breakfast. The huge glass conservatory was built in the 19th Century and is filled with exotic plants. It’s an amazing venue for a wedding reception. Hannah and Mark had an ‘Alice in Wonderland’ theme to their table decorations, complete with red and white teapots for the red and white wine. They also left bags of lego on the tables which produced some interesting results.

We had speeches from the usual candidates, including a second lot of public speaking from Hannah’s father of course! Next it was the cake-cutting, and then there was a failed attempt at sabrage. Always more spectacular with a very large bottle of champagne! Everyone escaped intact, but with much less champagne. Don’t play with sabres, kids. The couple then performed their first dance, and the guests danced the night away under the spectacularly lit dome of the Syon Park conservatory.
