This St Barts Hospital wedding had particular meaning for the bride. Lots of my clients get married in the church in which they were christened. However, very few of them get married in the place they were born. Jocelyn was born at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in Smithfield, East London an undisclosed number of years before holding her wedding reception there. First though, she had a date with Gabriel at the neighbouring Priory Church of St Bartholomew the Great. One of the oldest churches in London don’t you know. She got ready with friends and family at her home before jumping in a London cab to get to the church.
Parts of the church date back to the 12th Century. It was also one of the few churches to survive the Great Fire of London. In this incredible setting the ceremony was conducted by a friend of the couple, and featured an amazing choir. Gabriel was waiting in full top hat and tails and had a guard of his military colleagues with him.

When the deed was done the couple left through the military guard of honour, then there followed a drinks reception outside the church. There was then a short walk into the grounds of St Barts Hospital and up to the Great Hall. The history lesson continued as St Barts is the oldest hospital in Europe still operating on the same site.

What followed was a few speeches, some scoffing, and lots of selfies with an instant camera. There was plenty of spinning, swaying and swinging on the dance floor, before a grand exit. The couple then wandered to their hotel through a deserted Smithfield Market.
