Lucy & David

The Werkz Wedding Photography

My first trip to The Werkz (formerly Islington Metalworks) for a wedding. London weddings always offer up a variety of venues from the traditional to the contemporary, but I can honestly say this is the first time I have shot a wedding at a venue that now houses a goth nightclub.

Lucy and her bridal party got ready at her flat in Islington. It was a chilled out affair with a bit of food and some surprise gifts for the bridesmaids. Everybody then made the short journey up the road to nearby St James’ church for the ceremony. After the service there was time for confetti, then the happy couple jumped in a white London taxi for the journey to the reception.

Wedding Photography in Angel Islington

Following the wedding ceremony, everyone was shipped off to The Werkz. Tucked away down a side street behind Angel tube station, the unassuming doorway gives no idea of what awaits. Inside we were greeted by a tube train as a bar, complete with a photo booth in the cab. There were also enough mirrorballs to decorate a giant Christmas tree and umbrellas hanging from the roof. In the dining room there was an extensive gallery of framed family photographs.

There were drinks, canapés and a magician doing the rounds amongst the wedding guests. After the wedding breakfast there were a few speeches, and then the dining room was cleared ready for the first dance. It was also my first contact with cake pops as a wedding cake. The wedding party had created a forest of them in all manner of colours and sparkly bits. It’s the future!
