My first Caroline Gardens Chapel spring wedding! After doing summer and winter weddings there it was my first time seeing the amazing blossom on the big tree out front. This was also my first ceremony-only visit to Asylum after they stopped hosting receptions. Lucy and her entourage were based in a huge room at the reception venue for their preparations, the former Hospital Club in Covent Garden. A perfect pair of venues for Lucy, who is a doctor!
With preps complete, and beautiful dress and Manolo Blahnik shoes installed, it was time to head south of the river. We had a much more straightforward journey than my last winter wedding at Asylum! The amazing light in Caroline Gardens Chapel didn’t disappoint, and we even had a gospel choir to liven up the wedding. After the ceremony everyone headed outside to add some confetti to the layer of fallen blossom. Then there was a short drinks reception back inside the chapel with lots more singing.

Then, it was time for everyone to return to The Hospital Club on a pair of old London Routemasters. A lot of fizz was consumed on the way, and there was a short unplanned walk thanks to a police roadblock. The guests had time for a few cocktails before everybody took their seats for the wedding breakfast. After eating, I witnessed post-dinner Jägerbombs for the grandparents, and then it was time for the speeches. Lucy’s father, Richard and Richard’s best man all had a say, some of which the groom wished hadn’t been said. Finally, everyone headed upstairs for some late-night dancing on a very full dance floor.
