Staying in the Cotswolds area for a second week, I had a return visit to Matara for Michelle and Rob’s wedding. Organised predominantly from their former home in Australia, they returned to the UK just a few weeks before the wedding. As a result, travel featured heavily in the design of the wedding, including a world-map table plan. Michelle got ready in the Grade II listed house with her bridesmaids. My friend and fellow TWIA judge Chris Fordham was on hair duty. Once dressed Michelle headed down to the cloistered courtyard for the ceremony.
Following the legal bit, there was then a drinks reception in the cloisters. After that, everyone moved into the Hilarium for the wedding breakfast. Rob’s sister had put together the impressive floral arrangements, including some of the biggest table centrepieces I’ve ever seen. The meal was accompanied by some speeches before everyone headed back to the cloisters for the cutting of the cake of cheeses. Our friend the rain unfortunately put in regular appearances. However, it held off long enough for a rare bouquet-tossing, or two bouquet tossings given that the first one had a sneaky gatecrasher! The day ended with a first dance by the couple, and then a frantic evening of shape-throwing.
