With snow forecast in the Cotswolds for Gill and JJ’s winter wedding, I decided to hire a 4×4 car. This turned out to be a very good decision indeed.

The journey to The Close hotel in Tetbury where Gill was getting ready was easy enough. However, as we headed to the slightly more rural setting of Holy Trinity church in Amberley things got a little bit trickier. The vintage Jag that the couple had hired to drive them around just about made it to the church, but as we left the ceremony at almost 5pm on one of the shortest days of the year, the compacted snow turned nasty. I watched the Jag in front of me sliding around as it tried to make its way down the hill, but it was going nowhere. So, my trusty steed became the wedding car!

Once we reached Chavenage House it became clear that a lot of the guests hadn’t made it, and so a quick reworking of the table plan took place, overseen by some of the hardest working bridesmaids known to man. The already dark venue was lit only by a few candles and fairy lights, and was possibly the darkest reception I have ever photographed. Lots of atmosphere, but tricky work!
