Swan Hotel Wedding Photography, Newby Bridge, Cumbria
A rare but welcome trip to the Lake District for this wedding at The Swan Hotel and Spa in Newby Bridge. I first met Niki when she was a bridesmaid at Sarah and Paul’s wedding at Butley Priory in Suffolk back in 2009. She remembered my work, and once she’d found a suitable fiancé she got in touch!
Her wedding to Rew (short for Andrew) took place in the Lake District, near the southern tip of Lake Windermere. The reception venue, the Swan Hotel and Spa, was where they both got ready. Then they jumped into a vintage car for the short trip to St. Peter’s Church in Finsthwaite. Or that was the plan. Unfortunately the old car blew a gasket, or a gearbox, or something. So, the old double-decker bus that had been transporting guests was despatched to collect the bride and her party. If anything, a bus is a more suitable vehicle for transporting a bride in a wedding dress. Of course, Niki dealt with the situation in good humour!
This also meant that following the ceremony the happy couple got to travel back to The Swan with their guests. There they we were met by lovely sunny weather and members of the choir that Niki is a member of. They had also sung in church during the ceremony. Giving away the couple’s keenness for photography, there were vintage polaroids for the guests to use. There were also film canisters containing messages for each guest and a photographic table plan. And three wedding cakes! Well, a wedding cake, a pork pie cake and lots of fairy cakes.
The day ended with music provided by a big band, and a surprise performance by the bride!
