A first visit for me to Warwick Castle for a Christmas wedding with a medieval flavour. Liz got ready in a room at The Globe with her bridesmaids helping out. She also had her mother on hand to get her into the dress without any stress. With everyone ready, I followed the guests through Warwick town centre up to St Mary’s church. Paul was already in his seat and patiently waiting for the bride’s arrival. She followed in a fancy new Jag, almost losing her veil on getting out thanks to the wind. The vicar kept me to the back of the church to make room for a full choir, so my view was a bit limited! However, the ceremony was soon over and the couple headed outside. There the guests had already gathered around the wedding car to wave them off.

The guests and I walked down the hill to the castle, where we were greeted by a guard in full period costume. He led everybody through the gates of the castle and up to the state rooms. The Green Drawing Room was the venue for the drinks reception. Time for nibbles, and photographs with the guard. The Great Hall was the next location with banquet style seating for the wedding breakfast. The room is adorned with armour and weaponry, and had the addition of a huge Christmas tree and other decorations. There was also a surprise for the guests, as one of the suits of armour was not what it seemed.
As the bride and groom took their seats, and the guests began to relax, one of the suits of armour came to life. Scaring your family members half to death on your wedding day is always good fun! There followed a full-on sword fight between this chap and the guard as the guests watched on.

As the evening drew on we had the meal, then speeches, and finally the cutting of the cake. A sword was the obvious implement for this given the setting. The couple did their first dance, and the band played into the night!
