Next was a short drive back up the M5 to Maunsel House near Taunton for my first ever civil partnership, otherwise known as Claire and Kirsty’s wedding. The brides got ready in separate rooms on either side of the landing at Maunsel. Kirsty went with a traditional white dress, whilst Claire paired a less traditional outfit with killer Louboutin heels.
Outdoor ceremonies are becoming more popular, but I fear this year may put lots of people off the idea in future. Kirsty spent a lot of time looking worriedly out of the window, and having ‘will we, won’t we’ conversations with the co-ordinator. In the end the rain won the day forcing everyone inside for the most genuinely emotional ceremony I’ve seen for many a year.
Thankfully it held off long enough for the reception/fete/sports day to go ahead as planned. This was all soundtracked by gramophone DJs. Claire changed into a new pair of killer Paul Smith heels for the festivities. There was a coconut shy and all manner of fairground games. Then the guests took their seats outside for the meal which ended with a fantastic croquembouche. There were more tears for the speeches before everyone hit the dancefloor. Great party full of great people in a great venue.
