Terina + Tom
Borgo Bucciano Wedding Photography, Tuscany, Italy
My first time as a destination wedding photographer in Italy took me to a remote villa a short drive from Pisa. It goes by the name of Borgo Bucciano. Perched on a hill surrounded by the Tuscan countryside, this venue is made up of a collection of buildings, formal gardens, an olive grove and a pool. A great spot for sunbathing, although the weather had different ideas. It kept everybody guessing with heavy thunderstorms one minute and blazing sunshine the next.
In between the showers there was opportunity for the guests to chill by the pool. Meanwhile the bridal preparations got started in private, with Terina surrounded by her siblings and a close friend. The language (and style) barriers between the bridal party and the local hair and make-up artists were tricky at first, but soon overcome! A decision about the outdoor ceremony and outdoor wedding breakfast was put on hold until after lunch of local tomatoes and mozzarella. Luckily the rain died down, and the groom and his groomsmen began the task of setting up the ceremony seating amongst the olive trees.
With the sun’s hat firmly on, Tom’s sister conducted a relaxed, emotional and personal ceremony. This was brought to a close with a shot of limoncello for everybody! The heat enforced a slow walk back up the hill to the poolside for drinks and canapés. I can still taste the amazing lardo now! The terrace of the main house was the setting for the meal with some appropriate table decorations and photos of each guest. Speeches followed several courses of amazing Italian food, and then we headed into the formal gardens for a traditional Tuscan layered millefoglie cake.
Before the dancing there was a surprise firework display, then the action really got going. Inhibitions (and underwear for one particular kilt wearer!) were cast aside, and the heat was ignored. With the curfew at the house the party moved back to the pool, and continued into the early hours.

My last wedding of 2008 was over the Irish Sea, and most of Ireland, in a small town called Adare. Adare is home not only to a very grand manor house, but also three ancient abbeys. Marian and Daniel held their ceremony in the Trinitarian abbey, with the reception at...
