The second of three weddings in a row in the south of France took me to Château de Roquelune near Pézenas. This elegant 17th century building situated in the middle of the local vineyards, used to be home to the local squire. It has the most amazing peach walls and is set in a beautiful park with a huge lawn and lots of water features.
Inside the château, the a huge staircase dominates the hallway. It is up this staircase that I found Linda in one of the many bedrooms. She was getting ready with her two sisters, and two of her friends. One of her sisters was on make-up duty, the other in charge of fizz. Downstairs Tristan was supervising, and putting the finishing touches to the styling for the ceremony. His groomsmen helped him by taking charge of applying buttonholes and welcoming the arriving guests. The groom mitigated the intense heat by getting dressed as late as possible!
The Ceremony at Château de Roquelune
With the bride dressed and veiled, everyone gathered by the seahorse fountain for the ceremony. Accompanied by a string quartet the wedding party made their way down the aisle. Tristan, and a friend who was conducting the ceremony, met them at the end of the aisle. There was a brief ceremony with lots of laughter. Once that was over, everyone quickly headed to the fish pond for a quick group photo. After that, everybody took a short walk through the trees for drinks and nibbles on the lawn.

Traiteur Grand provided an amazing selection of canapés, including my favourite, a plancha cooking up seafood. The forecast rain held off thankfully, and the bride took the opportunity to throw her bouquet. After lots of catching up, and a few family photos, the wedding guests headed down the lawn to Château de Roquelune for the wedding breakfast. The venue staff set up tables in front of the château, with a big top table for the happy couple and their family. There were speeches from all of the usual players, and a few less usual, as the sun set.
The Orangery at Château de Roquelune
The evening party got started under the marquee, with the couple cutting the pièce montée. As usual, it made a grand entrance and was adorned with lots of sparklers! Next, the guests tucked into the dessert buffet before they made their way into the orangery. After that the couple then got the ball rolling with their first dance, while the guests soon packed the dance floor. Later in the evening, Linda’s family changed into Algerian dress and performed some traditional dances.
