Valentines Day brought my first wedding of the year, at Girton College on the outskirts of Cambridge. This was my first wedding at a Cambridge University college, but certainly not my last. Daniella recently completed a PhD at Girton and chose it as the venue for her wedding to Philip. She got ready at her home with family before heading to the college where Philip was waiting. The ceremony was held in the college chapel, but unfortunately I wasn’t allowed to photograph the majority of it.
After the ceremony was completed the couple lead the guests through to the drinks reception. Lots of fizz and a few photos and the good times were rolling. Soon it was time to head into the amazing Victorian Great Hall for the wedding breakfast. The traditional surroundings were softened by small elements such as tables named after planets in the Star Wars trilogies.
There were a few speeches before everybody retired for cake and coffee. Then back in the great hall a ceilidh band struck up and the crazy dancing started in earnest.
