One advantage to moving north when we did, is that I had a number of Yorkshire weddings in the diary that would have required a lot of driving from Kent. The first of these was Lindsay and Mat’s humanist wedding at Newton Grange, just outside Skipton.
I arrived at Lindsay’s parents’ home to find one of the four best men doing the bride’s hair. Definitely a first. With the dress going ‘over the top’, drastic measures were taken to protect said hair, then after a brief detour to visit Lindsay’s grandmother it was off to the ceremony.
The weather wasn’t great (recurring theme this summer) so the outdoor ceremony was rained into the marquee. I’m a big fan of humanist ceremonies as they’re always very personal to the couple, with lots of readings from friends and family. Mat got very emotional at this point, and many more points during the rest of the very fun day!
