Many wedding photographers begin their careers working as an assistant or back-up photographer for another professional, often known as second-shooting. However, I waited until ten years into my career to give second-shooting a try! I helped out my friend Paul White in December last year (not for blog unfortunately), and when my friend Kerry Morgan asked if I wanted to tag along to her friend Martyn’s wedding at Great Fosters I couldn’t really say no. You see, Martyn plays bass in a particularly great metal band by the name of Orange Goblin, a band I’m quite a big fan of.
So, I got to see how my friend Kerry approaches a wedding, I got to shoot without the pressure of being the main photographer, and I got to hang out with the band (the rest of the band were best man and groomsmen) and other members of the metal community. A very enjoyable day.
