Instead of my usual waffling, I thought I’d first post this Bruisyard Country Estate wedding photography with some feedback from Stephanie:
“I guess you wont be surprised, given your experience of me, but I have just genuinely sat through the eight minute slideshow completely overwhelmed with emotion. Your capturing of the love and joy is deeply moving and the pictures are as magical as the day was for me.
Given that it was such a very special day for the family and the photos have been so eagerly awaited, it could easily have been an anti-climax but I’m on a lovely high now and cannot express how grateful I am to you.
You are probably told this all the time but I will treasure your work for the rest of my life and know that I will turn to the album whenever I need to glow inside.
Thank you x”
Stephanie and Chris married at Bruisyard Country Estate. A 700 acre spot in the Suffolk countryside with a country house at one end, and a 17th-century barn at the other. It’s the kind of place that does a lot of the work for you. Big rooms, big skies, and enough space that nobody has to queue for anything.
Getting ready at Bruisyard Hall
Stephanie got ready inside the Hall with her bridesmaids. It was one of those rooms where the light comes in at an angle and makes everything look better than it has any right to. There was flower arranging, hair, make-up, and the odd quiet moment. By the time she caught her own reflection properly, it was clear the day had well and truly arrived.

The Ceremony in the Barn
The walk from the Hall to the Barn, past the guests already finding their seats under a roof full of ancient timber. A harpist played while everyone settled. Chris waited, trying to look composed and mostly managing it. Then Stephanie arrived and stopped bothering with composed altogether. Vows, rings, confetti, and a first kiss out on the little bridge with the barn behind them.

Afternoon Tea in the Walled Garden
Out into the walled garden for tea, which in this case meant proper scones, a small mountain of pavlova, and vintage china doing its best to hold it all together. Guests worked their way through giant Jenga and garden skittles with varying degrees of seriousness, and someone had pegged up old family wedding photos between the barn timbers, which is a nice touch I’d happily see more of.

The Wedding Breakfast and Speeches, Back in the Barn
Everyone back into the Barn, now dressed for dinner, for the wedding breakfast. Speeches followed, including one shot against the huge windows that turned the speaker into a silhouette against the evening light, which is the kind of thing you can’t really plan for. Stephanie read something of her own too, and it was clear from her face exactly how much it mattered.

The Evening Party
Bouquet toss on the lawn, first dance in the Barn, and then the gradual, entirely predictable descent into everyone dancing badly and enjoying it enormously. A good way to end a day that had already given the family plenty to remember.
